According to a telegram from Reuter the unsettled matter about War debts could not continue when President Hoover assumed office.

Mr Roosevelt, the President-Elect, was therefore invited to join him at the White House noting that “time is of great importance and I hope you will find it convenient to come to Washington as both Britain and France had sent notes to Washington indicating their inability to meet December Debt payments.”

Five fresh new cases of typhoid had been notified at Malton and York City had scored three “dream goals” against Tranmere Rovers.

“After recent criticisms, it was a pleasure to be able to say something much more heartening and congratulate the players on a really fine win” wrote the Yorkshire Herald.

York City Reserves had also won for the second time at home, that season, beating Hull City Reserves in front of 600 spectators.

Speaking at a press conference at the BBC Television Centre in London, Mr David Attenboroug, Controller of BBC 2, said that “every BBC 2 transmitter in all regions would be colour-capable by December 2.”

The service which was due to start with Billy Smart’s Circus in colour, continuing with Whicker’s World from Ceylon and then a recorded international Rugby Union match was an enormous moment in the BBC history and in television history.

A massive vote of “no confidence” by hundreds of York University students had resulted in five officials of the Students Representative Council being forced to resign.

Over 250 students attended a stormy two-hour emergency debate protesting at the way the SRC was handling their affairs after students complained over the borrowing of some lights for a dance.

Only 20 students voted against the ‘no confidence’ motion.

An asbestos scare was sparked in York after residents found suspect roofing material lying in the street.

Householders were alarmed that youngsters may have been playing with the material in the Lowther Terrace area of York, but environmental health officers had issued an assurance that while the material did contain asbestos it was in a safe form and residents need not be concerned.

North Yorkshire landowner and magistrate Lady Clarissa Collin had been officially nominated as the new High Sheriff for North Yorkshire and the Prince of Wales spent a poignant 49th birthday aboard the royal yacht Britannia, the vessel on which he spent his honeymoon.
