HAVING read the press reports about road transport access to the York Central development site, I am very surprised that the current proposal to have one new road to the site is even being considered.

What is needed is two roads to the site, one from Holgate Road linking the site to York inner ring road via Blossom Street and a second road from Water End linking the site to York outer ring road via Boroughbridge Road.

This would create a “through route” which would enable delivery vehicles delivering to the site and York city centre to enter from Water End and then leave via Holgate Road to carry out further deliveries. This would also mean that the two roads would “share the burden” of increased traffic.

If funding is a problem, then perhaps the plan is not the “fantastic development opportunity” that CYC claim it is. In which case the best option may be to scrap the whole project.

Trees forgotten in scheme consultation

IN the highly controversial suggestions over which access road into the York Central site is to be the preferred option, no thought has been given to the potential loss of all the mature trees at the proposed Holgate Road junction, along the back of the properties along Wilton Rise and along the community garden boundaries.

We may be mistaken, but as no detailed information on the road design has been released, despite requests, we fear the worst.

Why will the city and the York Central Partnership not let us see what they have in mind in such a late stage in this so-called “consultation”?
