A HAPPILY married couple have celebrated five decades of wedded bliss.
Rodney Cowl, 73, and his wife Susan, 70, first met in 1963 when they both worked at York Carriage Works.
Back in the early 60s, Mr Cowl was a fitter and his then-girlfriend worked in the office.
Mr Cowl asked Susan on a date to the cinema and the rest is history.
The couple, from Cambleshon Road, Southbank, were married on October 28, 1967 at Holgate Methodist Chapel and have two children together, Andrew, 44, and Martin, 40, and five grandchildren.
Mr Cowl was promoted to supervisor and worked at the Holgate Road site until its closure in 2002.
Mrs Cowl told The Press: “I don’t think there’s any secret to a long marriage, you just have to work at it.
“It’s flashed by and I don’t know where the time has gone.”
