IT is amazing how the Brexiteers’ taste for democracy evaporates when it comes to the 50 reports that have been produced for the Government (with public money) on the real impacts of Brexit.

One minute we are told that the public knows best and that politicians are obliged to carry out the will of 37 per cent of the electorate in a non-binding referendum, the next minute those same Leave campaigners become as silent as Trappist monks when it comes to obliging the politicians to releases the reports on the consequences of Brexit.

What do Brexiteers fear?

Why, in a democracy, shouldn’t we know what Government is being advised?

As if that weren’t enough, we now have Tory MP Chris Heaton-Harris demanding that universities tell him who is teaching courses on Brexit and what they are teaching.

His conduct wouldn’t look odd in a totalitarian state.

One of the many benefits of going to university is that it teaches you to think for yourself and gives you a nose for when powerful people are telling porkies.

Instead of trying to suppress learning, Heaton-Harris would serve the public better by demanding the public release of the 50 reports.
