A SOCIAL enterprise cafe in North Yorkshire has received a visit from the Archbishop of York.

Dr John Sentamu popped in to The Seafood Social in Scarborough for lunch recently.

During his visit the Archbishop shared his Whitby scampi with other visitors while spending a few moments meeting the staff at The Seafood Social and learning about the opportunities the cafe is giving to those affected by homelessness and long-term unemployment.

Whitby Seafoods, a family business based in Whitby, founded and built the project from scratch with the objective of raising funds for The Rainbow Centre, a Scarborough-based initiative that aims to tackle homelessness and the issues that can lead to homelessness.

The cafe gives people the chance to work again, building skills and experience, to help give them a road back into full time employment.

In addition, the cafe runs a 'pay it forward' scheme, giving customers the opportunity to add the cost of a meal or a hot drink to their bill, which is in made available to The Rainbow Centre to distribute to those in need.
