ENORMOUS pumpkins from across the UK made their way to Elvington attraction for York Maze's annual pumpkin weigh-in.
The largest specimen will now be hollowed and a face carved into it in a bid to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the largest Jack O’Lantern.
But despite being the biggest pumpkin currently in the UK, at 916.5kg, it wasn’t eligible for the North of England heat of the international Giant Pumpkin Commonwealth competition because it had already won elsewhere.
Instead the competition was won by a 788.5 kg whopper.
Both were grown by Stuart and Ian Paton, of Hampshire, who are currently in the USA with their 1,029kg South of England heat winner.
Ben Watson, of York’s 116.5kg entry took second prize and Amelia Hart, 14, of Somerset, took third prize as well as the children’s title and prettiest pumpkin prize with her 46.5kg entry.
