TADCASTER Albion lost only their second home game in the Evo-Stik North this season, as they were beaten 2-1 by Skelmersdale United.

Josh Greening’s sumptuous chip cancelled out Alaster Redmayne’s first-half opener, before Andrew Owens found himself the hero, following up after hitting the post with 15 minutes remaining to give United their first away win of the campaign.

Manager Michael Morton named an unchanged starting line-up to the one that drew at Colwyn Bay last week, but did re-introduce under-21 player Casey Stewart to the bench.

Albion started brightly in the fierce winds of Storm Brian, Greening being kept out twice by the United stopper inside the opening five minutes.

But it was strugglers Skem who broke the deadlock, when Redmayne’s low strike from the edge of the area took a nick off Josh Barrett and found the bottom corner.

Taddy continued to threaten though, Roberts denying Greening for a third time after a clever flick goalwards.

What followed was a golden opportunity to draw level – Lawrence Hunter’s swirling free-kick was knocked down by Tom Corner into the path of Andy Milne who, with only the goalkeeper to beat, fired straight at Roberts.

Two more shots at goal came and went, Barrett and Corner both flashing volleys off target.

Outside the first 15 minutes, the only noteworthy chance of the half came in the closing stages, when Aiden Savory headed narrowly off target, while Skem barely threatened at all.

Into the second half and, for all of Taddy’s possession, clear-cut chances had seemed to dry up, with the visitors blazing over twice inside the opening ten minutes.

Albion delivered a hefty number of crosses into the box for Corner and Savory, but defenders Liam Hollett and Callum Jones stayed resolute.

However, Taddy kept plugging away, and equalised 20 minutes into the second half.

Callum Jones’ clearance cannoned off Pete Davidson, and the classy midfielder chased the ball, forcing goalkeeper Roberts into scuffing his clearance, which bobbled to Greening who jinked inside and deftly chipped over the keeper.

At this point, there seemed to be only one team likely to come away with all three points, as Albion continued to pen United in their own half.

Yet despite Taddy’s dominance, it was the visitors who netted the elusive third goal when Owens – who had been a handful all afternoon – scuffed a shot off the post. Chris Howarth failed to clear and the tall centre forward latched onto his own effort to tap in.

With 15 minutes to go, the only chance of note for the Brewers came when a Savory cross was dropped by the keeper but Milne couldn’t hit the target.

Albion are now 12th in the table.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed Scarborough Athletic twice lost their lead at Kendal Town as they drew 2-2.

The Seadogs went into half-time one goal to the good, courtesy of a Danny Stimpson header at the near post from a Michael Coulson corner, but conceded just after the break.

Jimmy Beadle edged them ahead again, converting a Max Wright cross, but Kendal pegged them back once more with ten minutes remaining.
