LORRY hauliers have thanked the public for helping them move a mammoth load from York to Hull in double quick time.

The departure of the 27m long, 4.6m wide and 4.5m high 75-tonne cargo from Portastor Ltd in Huntington where it was built was delayed by 45 minutes.

But thanks to Stockton-on-the-Forest residents clearing their main street of parked cars and other road users keeping their cars out of the slow moving convoy’s way, it arrived at Hull Docks more than an hour early.

Senior project manager Liam McLoughlin, of hauliers Collet & Sons Ltd said: “Everything went really well. The police were a massive help, as were the members of the public, who parked responsibly.”

The load is part of a shipment from York to the United Arab Emirates. A similar load will make the same journey on Tuesday.
