A GROUP running nine GP surgeries in York has been nominated for four awards.

Priory Medical Group, which was formed in 1946 and includes practices in Fulford and Heworth Green, is in the running for a handful of General Practice Awards.

They are nominated for the General Practice Team of the Year Award, while advance nurse practitioner Cheryl Lythgoe has been shortlisted in the Nurse of the Year category.

She said: “I was embarrassed when I found out I was nominated if I’m being truthful. It’s very, very unexpected; it’s very flattering that somebody’s nominated me and it’s always lovely to feel validated in your work.

“I do exactly the same job as a lot of nurses out there who come to work and do the very best they can for their patients and their employers.

“I didn’t feel as though I was doing anything over and above what every other hard-working nurse does.”

The group’s wound care team, Danielle Arundale and Michelle Phillips, have been nominated for the Nursing Team of the Year Award; while the pair are also in the running for the Clinical Team of the Year – Dermatology Award.

Speaking about the wound care team’s nomination, Cheryl added: “These ladies are phenomenal. My personal opinion is that these ladies represent everything that is good about nursing.

“As a team we looked at how we could improve the standard of service on offer from a benefit to the patient and cost point of view.

“Michelle and Danielle have looked across the board, standardised care and delivered cost-effective results that have given audited results and the patients love the care they’re getting on the back of that – we’ve got some really, really good feedback.”

Martin Eades, managing partner of Priory Medical Group, said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for so many awards this year. We have now received nominations in the last three years which is testament to the tremendous effort, enthusiasm and energy of the teams at Priory.

“General Practice is a challenging and demanding environment and these nominations recognise how the team at Priory Medical Group have gone the extra mile and beyond in the interests of improving patient care.”

The group is a member of the NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), and has worked to develop the new wound care service which has helped to improve access to the right care.

A ceremony will be held at Royal Lancaster London Hotel on Thursday, November 30, to announce the winners.
