SELBY Town came from a goal down to beat Emley 2-1 in the Northern Counties East League on Tuesday as they returned to winning ways.

The sides came into the game at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium off the backs of two contrasting results – Emley had a huge 7-1 victory at Swallownest, while Selby lost 4-0 at Grimsby Borough.

Emley employed a shoot-on-sight policy for this visit, and seven minutes in, Matty Waller fired into the roof of the net following some pinball in the box.

Selby’s back line was tested throughout the half as the visitors poured forward, but were also able to get efforts away themselves, both Liam Flanagan and Charlie Clamp coming close.

The Robins started the second half brightly, and had restored parity within three minutes through Joe Dale, lashing in a volley at the far post from a Ben Lock cross from the right.

Seven minutes later, Dale was the provider, crossing for Casey Stewart to neatly steer the ball over the keeper.

Emley came back into the game, even having a late goal disallowed, but Selby held out for a morale-boosting win.

Tomorrow, Selby host Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in the league, a team whose three wins in the competition have all come away from home.

Also in need of a boost were Evo-Stik North high-flyers Scarborough Athletic, following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Hyde United.

And the Seadogs provided, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Whitby in the first round of the Integro League Cup through Charlie Binns and Nathan Valentine’s winner three minutes from time.

Scarborough visit mid-table Kendal Town tomorrow.
