AN 18th Century building in York will reopen today following a £400,000 renovation.
The Assembly Rooms in Blake Street first opened in 1735, and is home to the Ask restaurant. It had to close for urgent repairs to the ceiling.
York Conservation Trust, which owns the building, has paid for the refurbishment, and chief executive Philip Thake said he was immensely pleased with the results.
He said: “The end result is amazing.
“Furniture is going in as we speak, but to see it empty like that with the chandeliers completely refurbished at a cost of £50,000, and the work that’s been done, it looks absolutely amazing.”
The restaurant will reopen today, providing pizza for the workers who helped with the refurbishment.
