WORK will begin next week on improvements to bus stops in York city centre, closing them for up to a month.
City of York Council confirmed the next phase of work on the stops in Rougier Street, which are among the most used in the city, will start on Monday, October 23.
The changes include installation of new paving and kerbs ahead of creation of a new bus shelter in January, and are expected to take four weeks to complete, with the stops ready for passengers on Monday, November 20.
This will mean buses will not be able to stop on the Roman House side of Rougier Street while the works are underway, so buses will be moved to Low Ousegate, Station Avenue, the Railway Station or a temporary stop at Micklegate, depending on the route.
Cllr Ian Gillies said: “The improvements at the Rougier street bus stops will help to make the area nicer for residents, visitors and bus passengers.
"The new paving and kerbs will help to ready the area for when the new bus shelter is installed, bringing the area up to the same standard as the new stop on Museum Street.”
The Rougier Street bus stops will reopen for the Christmas and New Year period.
It will then will close again in January for the new shelter to be installed.
