THEY met on a rainy day outside Acaster Malbis RAF base, and 60 years later a York couple have marked their diamond wedding.
Stuart Turnbull was on guard duty outside the base when he spotted Everil cycling past, and invited her in for a cup of tea.
The couple soon met again in York, and they were married at Ellerton church on October 5, 1957.
Sixty years later the couple, who have two children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, celebrated their anniversary surrounded by friends and family.
Mr and Mrs Turnbull, who live off Huntington Road, say the secret to a long and happy marriage is to “argue when necessary”, but always enjoy making up afterwards.
