HOPES of creating a super new playground for children in Upper and Nether Poppleton have been given a £1,000 boost by a local business.

Arnold Clark has presented the ‘Poppleton Play’ committee with a cheque for £1,000 towards a £90,000 fundraising drive to replace the existing playground, which has concrete surfaces and metal equipment.

The committee, a group of volunteers who give up their free time to raise funds for the project, have applied for grants and regularly hold local fundraising events, said chair Claire Fox.

"The next events are a Hallowe'en treasure hunt on October 29 and a Danceathon on November 18, which will be held at the Poppleton Community Centre," she said.

“Our final aim of providing a playground suitable for children of all ages and abilities will not be possible without the support and assistance of the community and local businesses like Arnold Clark." She added that Poppleton Play’ was working closely with the parish and City of York Councils.
