A ROAD has fully re-opened after Yorkshire Water completed their repairs to a collapsed sewer five metres below the city.

Work on the inbound lane of Fishergate finished on Monday morning, bringing almost three weeks of disruption to residents, businesses and commuters to an end.

The partial closure of the road down to one lane for the past fortnight - creating a bottleneck on one of the inner ring road’s busiest sections - had led to long queues developing on Fishergate and the A19 Fulford Road heading in to York during the rush hours.

The road fully closed in one direction on Thursday, October 5, to allow for the piling, with traffic diverted through the heart of the city centre via Paragon Street, Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green and Stonebow and then through Coppergate.

Yorkshire Water, the company behind the roadworks, has moved to apologise for the disruption caused during the roadworks.

A spokesman said: “The inbound lane on Fishergate has now re-opened.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to commuters, residents and businesses disrupted.”
