NEW safety measures are being brought in at a danger junction in Tadcaster.

There have been four crashes at the Rudgate crossroads on Toulson Lane since November 2014 - one of them fatal.

North Yorkshire County Council bosses have now struck a deal with landowners to improve visibility on the south-western corner of the junction by removing trees and bushes, and erecting a fence for the landowner along the edge of the visibility areas.

The work will begin on Thursday, October 19 and is expected to be completed within a fortnight.

In the summer, a temporary chicane was installed near the junction to see if this would be effective in reducing approach speeds, and although there was some positive feedback farmers were worried about the space it left for larger farm vehicles, and it was decided not to make it permanent.
