YORK Indoor Bowls club’s ‘B’ team claimed an impressive win over Doncaster in division two, as the divisions one and three teams suffered defeats.

The ‘A’ team faced fellow relegation-dodgers from last season, Redcar, who overturned a 70-66 deficit to win 83-75.

At home, Tony Horobin’s rink were the only side to win, making the most of an 8-0 lead after three ends, as they went on to win 25-15.

Jason Parkinson’s rink were embroiled in a tight game up to the 14th end – the scores level at 13-13 – but the Teessiders then claimed six ends on the trot to secure a 22-14 win.

Away, Stuart Smith’s rink had a 21-12 lead, but dropped two singles and a seven to lose 21-20.

Alan Vowles’ rink recovered a 17-13 deficit, lost four consecutive ends and dropped eight shots to lose their game 25-16.

York ‘B’ claimed an excellent 106-63 victory against Doncaster I in the second division, leading on aggregate all the way, picking up 12 points with three winning rinks.

In Doncaster, Ken Simpson, Dave Clark, Trevor Wilford and Mal Bulmer finished with two fives to emerge comfortable 34-11 winners, after having trailed 5-1.

Graham Instone, Alan Smith, Tex Stevens and Pete Bradley played similarly well, only losing six ends throughout their match. They capitalised on a 10-0 lead after only three ends to finish 31-12.

At home, John Earnshaw’s rink were 17-16 down with five ends to play, but emerged 27-18 winners.

Harley Wenham’s rink suffered the only defeat for the side, being level at 12-12 with six to play but lost 22-14.

York ‘C’ lost 98-84 against Selby ‘B’, with only one winning rink – Allen Clapham, John Butler, Jack Woodworth and Ray Clark putting in a good performance as they lost only six ends in a 28-12 win.

The other home rink of Colin Robinson, Alan Yoward, Nathan Gallagher and Mike Snowden turned a 10-4 deficit into a 13-10 lead after 14 ends, before a disastrous run saw them lose the game 39-15.

In Selby, both rinks did well, Pete Waring and team coming back from 20-11 down to 23-20 up, but lost 24-23, while Wally Darbyshire’s rink only lost 23-18, having trailed 16-0 after seven ends.

York Knights beat York Romans 91-63 in the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two, winning three rinks and the last six ends 33-13 on aggregate.

Doug Mitchell’s rink beat Andy Lockwood’s team 33-16, to be joined by Knights’ Charlie Arnett’s rink in a 20-10 victory over Chris Reaston’s team.

Allen Clapham’s rink fought back against Wally Darbyshire’s rink to win 24-13 for the Knights, before Pete Waring’s rink claimed the Romans’ only victory against Tony Butterfield’s team 24-14.
