BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent starlet Rob Harvey has been offered a three-week trial at Premier League side West Ham.

The highly-rated midfielder starts his spell with the Hammers on Monday and has been told he will play in at least one under-23 match.

Other Football League clubs have also expressed an interest and Regent boss James Webster believes Harvey has “all the tools” to play at a higher level, having also previously been on Ipswich Town’s radar.

“Rob has no fear. He just wants to go out there and play his football,” said the R's manager, whose side are back in Bostik League premier division action at Thurrock on Saturday.

“He works so hard and I’ve never dealt with a young player with such a good attitude.

“He loves feedback and he’s always asking the coaches ‘what can I do better?’ “He wants information and to go away and improve himself.

“I couldn’t say anything negative about him – he’s that good a lad.

“Ability-wise, he’s probably on a par with some of the other boys in our under-18s.

“But the thing that sets him apart from the others is his attitude.

“He’s not looked out of place for one moment in the first team and he’s only going to get better.”

Webster, who first became aware of Harvey when he was playing under-16 youth football, knew there were scouts at last Tuesday’s 1-0 victory against Wingate and Finchley.

Harvey, 17, was named in the starting line-up and impressed in a wide role.

“I’m really pleased for him and if he gets a move, we’ll be all for it and full of encouragement," added the R's boss.

“I feel he can play at a higher level.

“He’s got all the tools and the right attitude, which goes a long way.

“Maybe he can be a bit technically better but that’s something that can be coached. He’s very coachable.

“Hopefully his dream is still alive and he may get a move somewhere.”

Regent had no league match at the weekend, due to scheduled opponents Burgess Hill Town being in FA Cup action.

Instead, they arranged a friendly at division north side Mildenhall Town and lost 2-1.

Regent lost 3-2 at Leiston on Tuesday.
