FAIRFAX House in York is celebrating the many achievements of Georgian-era Casanova tomorrow (Thursday).
There will be an illustrated talk by historian, actor and dramatist, Ian Kelly.
In Casanova and the Theatre of the World, Ian will look at Giacomo Casanova’s accomplishments as a librettist, mathematician, trainee priest and lottery winner.
Hannah Phillip, director of Fairfax House, said: “Sadly Casanova’s intellectual achievements have been largely overshadowed by his often complicated and elaborate affairs with women.
"He was much more than just a sensualist – but on love and sex, too, he holds an important place in contemporary thinking on the continuing impact of the Enlightenment.”
The event at 7pm will include a book signing session and a post-lecture wine reception.
Admission to the lecture is £14 (£12 for Friends and Members).
