More than 2,000 rubber ducks took to the River Wharfe in Tadcaster for an annual day of fun and fundraising.

The yellow and coloured ducks were launched from the viaduct west of the town centre at the start of the annual Tadcaster Duck Race.

They floated under restored Tadcaster Bridge and over Tadcaster Weir to reach the finish line.

It was the centrepiece of a day devoted to all matters nautical. On the river banks, games included duckbola, hook-a-boat and cup-a-duck. “The 2017 annual Duck Race has been a fantastic success,” said Chris Porter, facility manager for Tadcaster Swimming Pool, which hosted the event with help from the Lower Wharfe Canoe Club. “Thank you to everyone who helped, took part and came to support the event.

“We hope to have raised more than £4,000, which will go towards expanding the reception area at the pool to improve customer experience.”

The winning ducks belonged to Robert Gardner (1st), Jess Downes (2nd) Clare Cockeram (3rd) and corporate winner Popplewell Springs.
