A SIXTH school has joined a flourishing academy trust in York.

Barlby High School has signed up to the Hope Learning Trust and joins the likes of Manor CE Academy, Vale of York Academy, Poppleton Ousebank Primary School and Burton Green Academy School in working alongside one another to develop the best education possible for youngsters.

The schools will share best practice, develop staff, making advancements in teaching and learning and make sure there are strong outcomes for students.

Key staff from the Hope Learning Trust including a director of maths, a director of English and a special needs coordinator will work with existing staff at Barlby High School.

Julie Caddell who was previously vice principal at Manor CE Academy took up her role as Barlby High’s headteacher in May.

She said: “Our vision is that every child should flourish and develop a real love for learning.

“We want the very best for all our students and have high expectations for them.

“By being part of the Hope Learning Trust, we reap the benefits of having centralised support where and when we need it and from working in partnership with staff across the Trust.

“Our students’ learning opportunities will be enhanced and they will have the chance to thrive.”

Brian Crosby, chief executive officer of the Hope Learning Trust, added: “The High School has been part of the Barlby community since 1960 and we are committed to ensuring that the school retains its heritage and identity.

“All of our schools have their own unique identities and these differences will continue to be celebrated but joining the Hope Learning Trust provides a mutual benefit of sharing resources and offering more choice and greater opportunities for students and staff.”

The visible changes at Barlby High School include the school’s new signage, new uniform and new leadership, but leaders say its name remains unchanged.
