A GATHERING of 33 historic coaches and buses will be heading to the Yorkshire Air Museum on Sunday in partnership with Thornes Independent Ltd of Hemingbrough, Selby.

The event in Elvington follows gatherings in 2014 and 2015 when owners of classic coaches went to the museum with their vehicles to celebrate Thornes 65th anniversary.

The vehicles will include single and double-decker buses and coaches from the 1940s to 1970s, reflecting the golden era of public transport and coaching holidays.

Gathering at Thornes Hemingbrough base, the coaches will proceed in convoy to the Yorkshire Air Museum, arriving from 10am, to park up on display.

There will also be an outing to the Derwent Valley Light Railway at Murton.

Ian Richardson, YAM spokesman, said: “We know there is a great deal of public interest in historic vehicles of all descriptions, so we are delighted to bring this gathering of heritage buses and coaches to Elvington once again.

"With an enhanced display area on this authentic site, they will provide a magnificent spectacle for our visitors to enjoy.”
