CHILDREN and adults were showered head to toe in clouds of powdered paint when they ran a 2km colour run.

Knavesmire Primary School pupils - along with their teachers and families - became colourful masterpieces as they were sprayed with paint during the messy fun run.

They paid £5 each to enter the run on the Knavesmire to support teachers Emily Moss and Sophie Kaberry, who are raising money to volunteer their skills in Sri Lanka next year.

“The colour run is such a great way to have fun, have some exercise and raise money,” Miss Moss said.

“We were so please that 400 - half children and half adults - ran. We made a day of it with a raffle, an ice cream van, cake stall and hot dogs too. We’ve had so much support and York Cars donated the paint. Next summer we will go to Sri Lanka for two weeks, taking essential school supplies and offering teacher training to those teachers in rural parts of the country.”

She explained that Projects Abroad Teaching placements offer teachers the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of students in developing nations.

“Living with a host family, we will spend every day working in a school: teaching children English, offering the chance for current teachers in Sir Lanka to observe our teaching styles and working collaboratively to develop new teaching ideas that can be implemented in Sri Lanka.

The pair are also setting off at 5am this Saturday to climb the Yorkshire Three Peaks, in a bid to raise a further £1,000 to fund the trip, that will cost £2,000 each.
