A SERVING police officer has been given a final written warning after being found guilty of gross misconduct.

Detective Constable Julian McGill appeared before a tribunal at Humberside Police this week, facing allegations of breaching the standards of professional behaviour in respect of confidentiality, orders and instructions and duties and responsibilities.

The hearing, overseen by an independent chair, took place at Beverley Police Station on Monday where full details of the allegations - which included accessing crime reports without legal reason - were revealed.

The allegations were so serious, he could have faced dismissal from the force, but Det Con McGill was found guilty of gross misconduct and received a final written warning.

Chief Superintendent Judi Heaton, head of professional standards branch for the force, said: "It is important that the public can be sure that Humberside Police Officers are held to very high standards of honesty and integrity at all times.

"The behaviour of the officer in this case fell below the standard therefore it was right that his actions were examined at a misconduct hearing."
