FIVE York firms have been announced as the first companies to set up shop inside containers.
The first tenants of Spark:York, in Piccadilly, will be pop-up cafe York Nuturing Company, Once Across The Garden offering vegan food, Street Cleaver with their Asian steamed bao buns, Clucking Oinks and speciality fried chicken, and galette and crepe experts Krep.
Four of the five can currently be found at York Food Festival, in Parliament Street.
Occupying one of the larger units at Spark:York is York Nurturing Community (YNC). They are bringing their pop-up cafe to the food hub on St Sampson's Square on Wednesday, serving hot meals with allergy-friendly ingredients prepared using surplus produce to cut back on waste.
The site is currently under construction at the former Reynard's garage, with the containers being prepared to house food businesses as well as providing office space for company start-ups.
