HUNDREDS of music and comedy fans gathered for the annual family event Yorfest an Saturday night at York racecourse.

Britain's number one country act The Shires was joined on the lineup by indie legend Badly Drawn Boy, Brighton's Fickle Friends, Teeside folk gems Cattle & Cane and dub/reggae/folk/rock fusion band Dreadzone.

With two music stages and a comedy platform, Yorfest is a family extravaganza with a carnival atmosphere.

Away from the main stage the acts included: Apollo Junction; 5K; The Tunnels; Adelphi; Hellbound Hearts; Tom Jane; Ginger Tom and Minster Conspiracy.

Headliners The Shires are one of the world's hottest country duos, powered by Crissie Rhodes' vocals and Ben Earle's voice and acoustic guitar.

For children there was facepainting, festival glitter and jewels along with fairground attractions.

And out for laughs in a special marquee was Jason Manford’s Comedy Club.
