POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in York last night that left three people injured.

York Police were called at around 9.40pm to the incident in Station Road near the Principal Hotel, which resulted in a man in his 60s sustaining serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains.

A 26-year-old man and a woman in her 60s sustained minor injuries.

A 33-year-old man from North Shields was arrested in connection with the incident and has been charged with wounding and assault.

He is due to appear at York Magistrates' Court on October 26.

The charges relate to the man in his 60s (wounding) and the 26-year-old man (assault).

Anyone witnesses who were in the area between 9.15pm and 9.45pm on Saturday night are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York Serious Crime Team.
