VISITORS to a York village will come face to face with some straw-based residents when Copmanthorpe’s fourth annual scarecrow festival gets underway this weekend.

The village will be full of superhero creations and lots of people enjoying the trail, both from villagers and visitors who come from across York.

This year’s event is raising money for a new and improved play park at the Recreation Centre and it is hoped the scarecrows will give a financial boost to a project aimed at adding equipment for disabled children to the play area.

Copmanthorpe Rocks is also joining in the fun and families have been busy decorating small rocks to hide around the village.

Spotters could discover anything from a tiny painted Spiderman to an intricate scene.

Scarecrow trail sheets will be on sale from the Sports and Recreation Centre, from 10am to 4pm.
