YORFEST now comes with added Power. John Power, to be precise.

The Cast frontman and former member of the cult Liverpool band The La's has joined the line-up for Saturday's live music and comedy gathering on Bustardthorpe Field, Knavesmire, York.

"We've confirmed a wave of musical heavyweights to our billing, and fans of indie songsmith John Power, famed for Cast's anthemic festival sing-alongs Walk Away and Fine Time and his role in Scouse indie legends The La's, are in for a treat when the Liverpool-born star makes his Yorfest bow," says event programmer Bryan Stubbs.

Led by Power, Britpop mainstays Cast released their sixth studio album, Kicking Up The Dust, in April, having celebrated the 20th anniversary of their classic album All Change in 2015 with two sold-out shows at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, where they played the record in its entirety accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Power will perform hits from his band's back catalogue, adding "some much-loved Nineties' spirit and nostalgia to Yorfest 2017". Meanwhile, NME favourites ...And The Hangnails can't wait to rock their home-city crowd before the summer festival circuit comes to a close, after gigging with The Fall, The Damned, The Undertones, DZ Deathrays, Drenge and The Pigeon Detectives.

York Press:

...And The Hangnails...and their masks

"York is our home town, it's where it all started,” says ...And The Hangnail's Martyn Fillingham, whose band formed in 2011. "There's been a large festival-shaped hole in the Yorkshire music scene of recent years and we're really psyched to be involved with this one. I see big things happening for Yorfest and hopefully it keeps getting bigger each year. I think a lot of people are just beginning to realise this. It feels like a pretty exciting time to be from Yorkshire."

What lies in store on Saturday from ...And The Hangnails? "From our live show, people can expect a bit of dry wit, sarcasm, long endings to short songs and some of the best indie-garage-rock bangers since the early 2000s," says Martyn. "Think punked-up Strokes meets Beach Boys melodies played fast, then you're on track to have your expectations lowered forever! See you from the stage. I look forward to seeing a nice combination of dance moves, human pyramids and some bewildered looks from the crowd."

Casting an eye over the festival line-up, Bryan Stubbs says|: "As part of our commitment to featuring some of the hottest bands around right now, we'll welcome English indie-pop band Fickle Friends, as well as York's very own UK punk outfit ...And the Hangnails and the alternative rockers Feed Them To The Forest to an eclectic line-up that already boasts the likes of global country sensations The Shires."

As the hours tick by to the festival's third staging, Bryan says: "We’re very pleased to be welcoming indie royalty, as well as future superstars, to our most diverse line-up yet, and of course with the worldwide festival debut of Manford's Comedy Club joining us, the good weather forecast ahead has the whole team looking forward to the weekend. With over 30 acts across our four stages, we think we have something for everyone this year."
