FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire involving large piles of straw in a field in North Yorkshire, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Crews from Tadcaster were called to the fire in South Milford, west of Selby, at about 6pm yesterday.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Cause is believed to be deliberate."

Pitchforks, beaters and knapsack sprayers were used to put out the fire.
