A PACKAGE containing an "unidentified glue-like substance" was handed in to a police station in North Yorkshire by a member of the public last night.
The person had received the package through the post before handing it in to Thirsk Police Station, North Yorkshire Police said.
Fire crews attended the station at the request of police shortly after 9.45pm.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "The package was received through the post by a member of the public who brought it in to Thirsk police station. It contained an unidentified glue-like substance.
"The substance was tested by the fire service's hazardous materials officer and deemed not to pose any immediate risk. The substance has been protectively stored pending further inquiries."
