PUPILS from a York primary school have taken the top prize in a city sports tournament for the sixth time.

Clifton with Rawcliffe players lifted the trophy once again at the St Olave’s football tournament.

With the tournament in its tenth year, Clifton with Rawcliffe, have now won the trophy for the third consecutive year.

Eight state and independent schools from across the city brought their brightest under-11 talents to play on the St Peter’s School pitches.

Both the reigning champions and the team from Ralph Butterfield were impressive throughout the tournament, and it was only goal difference that separated them before Clifton with Rawcliffe lifted the trophy again.

Nathan Savage, Head of Boys’ Sport at St Olave’s, said: “This competition has gone from strength to strength over the years, with Clifton with Rawcliffe consistently competing for the prize. Many congratulations to them on retaining the trophy and a big well done to all the teams who played so well and in such great spirit throughout the day.”

The schools involved this year were: Bootham Junior School, Clifton Green, Clifton with Rawcliffe, Lakeside School, Poppleton Road, Ralph Butterfield, St Lawrence’s and St Olave’s.
