GEOFFREY SEARSTONE tells us the EU has not produced a meaningful set of accounts in years (Letters, September 13).

I’ve heard this kind of stuff before, along with stories about square bananas and much, much more.

Usually when I go and check the facts, the stories turn out to be pure hokum, so I’m inclined to disbelieve them.

I haven’t the time to check out the veracity of every single piece of nonsense the so-called “Eurosceptics” have been bombarding us with over the years.

But I don’t have a closed mind.

This claim about the accounts is a persistent one.

If Geoffrey or anyone else can point us all to some hard facts supporting it I’d be most interested.

I don’t propose to hold my breath waiting for a convincing response.
