A CARE home has celebrated with a local cycling hero following fundraising efforts for the charity Macmillan.

Jim Bumby visited Sowerby House in Thirsk after raising £3,500 with his brother-in-law Simon by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 15 days.

Jim is the nephew of a resident from Sowerby House, which also entertained Councillor Hazel Dalgliesh-Brown with a celebratory afternoon tea.

The care home raised £205 for the cancer charity by hosting a garden party and raffle.

Jim delivered a short speech about his adventure and offered congratulations to the home for its fundraising efforts. Katie Hodgson, deputy manager at Sowerby House, said: “The residents were very keen to raise money for Macmillan as it is a charity close to all of our hearts.

“We are delighted that Jim and Simon did so well, and that Jim was able to come and tell the residents about the journey.”
