PEOPLE are being invited to their own "Who Do You Think You Are" experience in York this weekend.

Fishergate, Fulford and Heslington Local History Group is holding a family history event on Saturday, September 16 from 10am to 2pm, at St Oswald’s Church Hall in Main Street, Fulford.

Advice and help will be available from York Family History Society and there will be talks at 10.30am on 'Writing up Family History: A Sense of Place' and at 12.30am on 'Starting out in Family History'. Visit www.ffhyork.weebly.com for details.

Chris Rainger, chairman of the local history group, encouraged people to see for themselves that family history is "full of discoveries".

In his own research, Chris has only recently found out his father did not get home from Second World War service until 1947. He said: "He had been called up just before his 21st birthday in 1942, so no wonder he thought he had wasted his best years when in the war."
