WHILE York schools generally perform better than average, there has been some evidence in recent years that children from the most disadvantaged backgrounds have been falling behind the rest.
So it is good to see that children from poorer backgrounds at two York primary schools are to get extra support. From January, Tang Hall and Haxby Road primary schools will work with charity the Big Futures Foundation on a two-year pilot. Up to 30 children will get extra help with their ‘emotional resilience, wellbeing and life skills’, with the aim of helping them reach their potential in class.
We’ll follow the pilot with interest.
