SMASH: Police are investigating after a biker was seriously hurt on the A170
Part of the A170 near Helmsley was blocked for a large part of this afternoon (Thursday, August 31) after a motorcyclist was involved in a "serious" crash.
Paramedics treated the biker who came off his vehicle in what police described as a “serious” incident just before 2pm.
The accident happened near the junction of the A170 and the B1257 junction at Sproxton near Ampleforth.
Police urged travellers to avoid the road, which is a popular tourist route.
The road was still closed as holidaymakers were returning home.
