RAMPAGING Vikings took centre stage at a village show on York’s outskirts.
Fulford Show, which has been running for more than a hundred years and raises money for local voluntary groups, took place in warm Bank Holiday sunshine on the school field and in the village social hall in School Lane.
Attractions included a medieval battle featuring the Vanaheim Vikings, Japanese drumming by Tengu School of Taiko, music by the New Notes and the Leaping Giants, children’s sports and a tug-of-war.
There was also a vibrant living history encampment, a children’s funfair, a giant inflatable, a miniature railway, stalls, a food quarter and the Fulford Tapestry, depicting the Battle of 1066.
The show produce and handicraft exhibition in the social hall featured flowers, cacti, fruit and vegetables, cookery, bread, preserves, wine, photography, needlework and a children’s section.
Fulford councillor Keith Aspden thanked show committee chair Verna Campbell and other hardworking volunteers who gave up their time to make it a great success.
“This year we were lucky to have fantastic weather and I’m grateful to all the families who came along to enjoy the variety of stalls, exhibits and performances,” he added.
