AN ELDERLY man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire in a flat.
Firefighters from Scarborough and Filey were called to the ground floor home, in Station Road, at 5.45pm on Friday when a halogen bulb inside cupboard ignited cardboard.
The fire was extinguished by a female resident using a bucket of water prior to arrival of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The pensioner was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews administered oxygen therapy and ventilated the building.
