THE Yorkshire Air Museum’s annual Rolling Thunder Day will be held tomorrow.

The event during which jets start their engines for the public returns to Elvington Airfield following a two-year break.

Among the jets taking part this year are the Yorkshire-built Blackburn Buccaneer, and the Nimrod MR2, the ‘Mighty Hunter’.

The Handley Page Victor XL231 - known as Lusty Lindy - will also be on show.

The Lusty Lindy started as part of Britain’s airborne nuclear deterrent in the late 1950s, and was converted to a tanker role for air-to-air refuelling, where it saw action in the Falklands War, and the first Gulf War.

Ian Reed, museum director, said vintage propeller aircraft would also be on show, including two First World War bi-planes, a Second World War Douglas C-47 Dakota and a 1947 De Havilland Devon.

Mr Reed said: “We are thrilled at this opportunity and extend our thanks to Elvington Parks for their cooperation in staging this event.”

Admission is £12 for adults, £10 for concession, £5 for children and £30 for a family ticket.

Gates open at 10am.
