WHILE I broadly agree with the comments of Dr Scott Marmion (Letters, August 10), there is one important point he has missed.
He states that residents cannot be bothered to reverse off their driveway.
Residents are required by the Highway Code, and I paraphrase, not to reverse on to any road which is busier than the one they are on.
As the driver of a van with no rearward vision, I have no trouble reversing into my drive using just the door mirrors.
Perhaps the money saved by not decorating the roads could be used to forcibly educate persistent offenders in how to reverse on to their driveways.
As a total alternative the council could adopt the continental practice within medieval towns where parking is permitted on one side of the street only, the side alternating every month.
