FUNDRAISERS are invited to walk, run, hop or skip at a charity event this weekend.

The Stevo Super Sunday is raising funds for the Rob Stephenson Trust.

Robert Stephenson died after being struck by a taxi on a night out in York in March 2016.

The 21-year-old, from Pickering, was a rugby player with Malton and Norton Rugby Union Club and a cricketer with Thornton-le-Dale Cricket Club.

Rob’s parents, Patrick and Nicki, and elder brother Sam set up the trust to help young people take part in sport.

The Stevo Super Sunday event includes a 5k or 10k starting and finishing at Malton Rugby Club.

Rob Hicks, one of the organisers, said: “We wanted to organise something for all abilities from serious athletes to those who just want to enjoy a Sunday stroll.

“Rob was very much involved in sport and encouraging others to get involved whatever their ability.

“The fund is doing a great job recognising that some people don’t have the same opportunities that Rob had.”

The Rob Stephenson Trust has supported a wide range of charities and organisations, both in this country and abroad, which encourage young people to take part in sport.

Rob’s mum Nicki said their latest fundraising event, a wacky golf day at Malton and Norton Golf Club had raised £4,000.

She said: “We would like to thank the golf club for their support in hosting the Wacky Golf Day and the many helpers from the club who made the event such a success.”

The Stevo Super Sunday takes place on Sunday, at Malton Rugby Club, with registration at 10am. The Stevo games will begin at 12.30pm. Entry is £15, including refreshments, with accompanied children under 16 free.
