THE scaremongers speak of crops going to ruin and rotting in the fields following the Brexit vote, with the removal of many migrants from the cheap labour pool.

But, have no fear, we have a workforce of millions of untapped workers ready, willing and able to take on this work.

For just a few bob at the end of the day, a cup of tea and a sandwich and a piece of cake at dinner time, all we have to do is to alter the school holidays to coincide with harvest times.

As a kid in the 1960s, the Easter break coincided with the haymaking, the summer with harvesting and the autumn with potato picking or fruit picking.

I feel sure that the kids will jump at the chance to get out in the fresh air and the free exercise will soon have them as fit as a fiddle and help clear up this obesity problem.

There will be the added bonus of a few bob in their pockets.

I feel sure the kids will jump at the chance of participating in a good hard days work.
