IT may not be generally appreciated that in the relatively recent past every country in Europe, except Sweden and Switzerland, has been subject to rule by an occupying power or a homegrown dictator.

As a result Europe generally has been comfortable with a legal system which more of less states that anything not forbidden is compulsory.

In the UK, it has always been that anything not legally and justifiably forbidden is acceptable.

Unfortunately it appears nowadays that the judiciary has taken it upon itself more and more to decide what is acceptable.

Perhaps after Brexit our Parliament may take on the responsibility for making our own law rather than just rubber-stamping EU edicts.
