ADRENALINE junkies have taken part in a daring World Record attempt in Elvington to show off their skills on one wheel.

The World Wheelie Championship saw bikers try to complete a kilometre on one wheel in the fastest time.

Ted Brady from Ireland set a new Motorcycle Wheelie World speed record by clocking 217mph in just over a kilometre.

Egbert van Popta, from Holland, did 213mph at last year’s competition.

The day of record breaking took place under blue skies and ideal weather conditions.

Riders were lucky enough to be afforded a tail wind and it did not take long before records started to fall.

Ted Brady stamped his mark on the day with a stunning new wheelie record at 217.850mph verified by spotters and the new finish line video camera and all before noon.

An additional nine riders were able to complete the kilometre wheelie by the end of the day’s competition.

The World Wheelie Championship is organised by Straightliners, who are affiliated to the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) and the International Organisation of Professional Drivers (IOPD).
