LETTER writer Mr Martin said that Scarborough Bridge is going to be “prettified” as though the proposed alterations are purely cosmetic (The Press, August 17).

However, the plans I’ve seen show quite major structural changes which will make crossing the bridge much easier for the hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists who use it every day.

At peak times there is sometimes a queue waiting to go up or down the steps at the side of the bridge, as they are too narrow for a pedestrian and a cyclist to pass easily.

The bridge is a link from one section of the cycle path to another but it can be quite difficult to get a bike up the steps.

I, for one, am very much looking forward to the new improved bridge and am very pleased that the work is going to be done.
