THE only jams on one York street this Sunday will be firmly contained within sandwiches and cakes.

Queues of teapots will replace vehicles of all kinds in Sandringham Street and the road will be covered with tables, chairs and everything needed for a good celebration.

City of York Council has allowed residents of the road, located off Fishergate, to close it from 1pm to 7pm on Bank Holiday Sunday so they can hold a street party in safety.

No vehicles will be allowed to “proceed or wait” in the cul-de-sac leading down to the River Ouse, but 999 service vehicles will be allowed in if there is an emergency.
