A MAN who was arrested at York city centre licensed premises in connection with sexual assault allegations has been released without charge.

North Yorkshire Police's Firearms Unit tweeted on Saturday that officers had arrested a male for a 'serious sexual assault that occured only 30 mins prior,' adding: 'Protecting the vulnerable.'

A force spokesman said today that police had been called to reports of a sexual assault at a licensed premises in central York in the early hours of Saturday.

"A man was arrested and, following police inquiries, he was released with no further action," he said.

"The investigation has now concluded."
