I WROTE back in March about what the council would do if people continue parking on the road instead of their driveways, and right on cue its happening (Letters, March 14).

In my area, along Moorcroft Road and Acorn Way, cars do indeed act like portable chicanes blocking access for passing motorists.

The reason is obvious, some residents simply cannot be bothered to reverse off their driveway in a morning (you know who you are).

As predicted, the response from the Liberal Democrat councillors for Woodthorpe and Dringhouses, set out in the summer edition of their Focus leaflet, announces a plan to put double yellow lines on these roads. Of course this plan will fail, like most of theirs, due to a lack of enforcement, yet we’ll still be paying for the work.

I wonder if at the final public consultation a deal can be reached; the council to leave the roads alone, if residents start showing more consideration for other people and stop treating the road outside their house as if they own it.

Not everybody is fortunate enough to have their own parking space so let’s be more considerate and remove the problem ourselves.

Give these bureaucrats the faintest excuse and they try to control your lives, take the excuse away and they might have to concede money is better spent repairing the roads instead of decorating them.
