I TOTALLY agree with B Norrie (Letters, August 14) in his/her advocating flyovers on the York outer ring road.

However, I would say one flyover urgently needed would be one at the Hopgrove roundabout where the A64 and the A1237 join.

The traffic hold-ups at this junction are absolutely horrendous in summer as anyone who uses this junction will know.

Unfortunately the A64 from the Hopgrove roundabout onwards is a mishmash of single and dual carriageways which hardly helps with traffic flow.

The A64 should have been dualled in its entire length many years ago. But in the current economic climate this is unlikely to happen.

Constructing a flyover at the Hopgrove junction would be of huge benefit to traffic going to the coast.

There used to be similar traffic hold-ups on the A19 at Easington where traffic from Peterlee was heading for the A182 to Newcastle.

A flyover was constructed and that bottleneck no longer happens.

So, instead of building the uncalled for HS2, spend all that colossal amount of money on dualling the A64 from the Hopgrove roundabout right through to Scarborough.

You know it makes sense.
